Import Registration Certificate

Import Registration Certificate (IRC) in Bangladesh

The Import Registration Certificate (IRC), also known as an Import License, is a mandatory document for businesses intending to import goods to Bangladesh. It is issued by the Chief Controller of Imports & Exports (CCIE), which operates under the Ministry of Commerce.

Required Supporting Documents for IRC Application

To apply for the Import Registration Certificate, the following documents are needed:

1. Copy of Valid Trade License
2. Tax Identification Number (TIN)
3. VAT Registration Certificate
4. Membership Certificate from the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry or relevant Trade Association
5. Original Copy of Treasury Challan (payment receipt)
6. Partnership Business (if applicable): Certified copy of Partnership Deed
7. Limited Company (if applicable): Certified copies of:
   • Certificate of Incorporation
   • Articles of Association
   • Memorandum of Association

(Note: Applicants must submit original documents for verification. Originals will be returned after the process is complete.)

Process for Obtaining the IRC

1. Online Application

• Submit the online application along with the prescribed fee to the Chief Controller of Imports & Exports (CCIE).
• Anyone can file the application to obtain the IRC.

2. Application Filing

• After submitting the application, the documents are reviewed by the CCIE office. The applicant will be required to pay the prescribed fee during the filing process.

3. Deposit Scheduled Fees

• Pay the required fee as per the schedule to proceed with the application.

4. Receipt of Certificate

• Once the submitted documents are checked and verified, the Import Registration Certificate will be issued by the Chief Controller of Imports & Exports.

The IRC allows businesses to import any permissible item without restrictions on value or quantity. However, it is required to import specific items like raw materials or special products.

Renewal of IRC

The IRC must be renewed annually. To renew, the following documents are required:

1. Original IRC and Passbook (with two photocopies)
2. Renewal Application submitted by the applicant
3. Treasury Challan for the annual renewal fee (scan copy and two photocopies)

The renewal fee must be deposited at Bangladesh Bank or Sonali Bank. Once the fee is paid and documents submitted, the IRC will be renewed.
