How to Obtain an Export Registration Certificate (ERC) in Bangladesh

The Export Registration Certificate (ERC) is mandatory for businesses intending to export permissible goods from Bangladesh. It enables businesses to export goods without restrictions on value and quantity. The legal basis for obtaining the ERC is found in The Export Policy Order 2015-2018.

Required Documents for Issuance of ERC:

  1. Passport-sized photograph of the applicant.
  2. Valid Trade License - Proof of business legitimacy.
  3. Valid Membership Certificate from a regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry or relevant trade associations.
  4. Citizenship Certificate of the applicant.
  5. Treasury Challan - Proof of payment for registration fees.
  6. TIN Certificate - Tax Identification Number issued by NBR.
  7. Partnership Deed (if applicable) - For partnership businesses.
  8. Certificate of Incorporation, Memorandum, and Articles of Association (if applicable) - For limited companies.
  9. Financial Solvency Certificate - Proof of the business’s financial ability to undertake exports.

Procedure to Obtain the ERC:

  1. Obtain the Application Form: Collect the ERC application form from the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports (CCI&E) or download it from their official website.
  2. Complete the Application Form: Fill in the application form with accurate details and gather the required documents.
  3. Submit the Application: Submit the completed application form along with the supporting documents to the Dispatch Section of the CCI&E office.
  4. Payment of Fees: Deposit the registration fee and the cost of the ERC Passbook at Bangladesh Bank or Sonali Bank. Collect three copies of the Treasury Challan as proof of payment.
  5. Final Submission: Submit the filled-in application form, supporting documents, and Treasury Challan to the CCI&E office for processing.

Time Limit for Issuance of ERC:

  • The estimated processing time for obtaining the ERC is 4 to 5 working days.

Renewal of ERC:

The ERC must be renewed annually for continued export activities. To renew the ERC, the following documents are required:

  1. Original copy of the ERC and ERC Passbook.
  2. Treasury Challan for the renewal fee.

Procedure for Renewal:

  • Submit the above documents and pay the renewal fee at Bangladesh Bank or Sonali Bank.

Time Limit for ERC Renewal:

  • The estimated processing time for renewal is also 4 to 5 working days.

Once the ERC is issued or renewed, the business will be eligible to export goods from Bangladesh without restrictions on the value or quantity.
